These spikes feature a ¾ to full spike plate that’s softer and more flexible than that of a mid-distance spike, and typically has just 4-6 pins placed around the outer edge of the plate for traction in turns. It’s a lot to ask of a shoe, but somehow distance spikes are designed to provide exactly all that! When you’re putting in a lot of laps, you need spikes that aren’t quite as form fitting and that offer more comfort, durability, and flexibility all while remaining lightweight. Shop Middle Distance Spikes → Long-Distance Track Spikes (1500m, 3200m - 10k) For these reasons, they’re a great choice for not only middle-distance runners, but also track and field athletes who do a little bit of everything. They have the ability to go the distance while still allowing for a kick, can be worn for longer races, and even used for hurdling and some field events. This design – built for both speed and endurance – makes middle distance spikes quite versatile. Sporting a combination of attributes from both sprinting and long-distance spikes, middle-distance spikes provide a balanced blend of flexibility and rigidity, torsion for tackling turns, comfort, and durability. Though still lightweight, these spikes have an added layer of cushion and a softer midsole to provide a little extra comfort since you are running for a longer duration. Middle distance spikes have a more flexible spike plate than sprint spikes, with fewer pins (6-8) and a design that keeps your foot in a more natural position rather than forward and on your toes. Multiple turns start edging you toward middle distances, and in that case you're going to want to invest in a different spike – one that’s not just built to go fast, but go farther. Shop Sprint Spikes → Track Spikes for Middle Distances (400m, 800m,1500m, mile) For instance, the length of the spike plate may vary depending on whether your event has one or no turns versus longer sprints that involve multiple turns. Keep in mind though, that even within the sprint spike category there are some differences to consider. Some sprint spikes even have built in booties and locked down laces to keep feet securely close to the spike plate for increased responsiveness and transfer of force forward.Ī rigid midsole minimizes contact with the track and maximizes forward propulsion, shaving valuable time off every step and resulting in speed demon performances. Sprint spike plates are aggressive, yielding the maximum number of pins (7-11), and are located beneath the forefoot to force runners on their toes for ultimate power and speed, and quicker turnover. Instead, they’re stiff, snug, and streamlined to hold your foot in place, and they provide little to no cushion to ensure ultimate lightness (and therefore quickness!). Sprint spikes are built for speed, so they don’t bother messing around with any of those comfy, plush features. Not all track spikes are created equal – they’re actually designed with specific events in mind. Of course, before you get too excited to get out there and crush it, you need to get your feet in the right spikes for the event or events you do. In short, spikes are designed to give you an extra boost without extra effort or energy, so you can compete at your very best. They’re lighter which reduces fatigue they hug your feet for better control and they provide extra grip where you need it most, resulting in greater responsiveness and powerful push offs that propel you forward, faster. While your regular trainers are built for, well, training, spikes are built for competition. Do Track Spikes Really Make a Difference? So how do you know which pair is best for you and your needs? This guide will help put you on the right track (see what we did there?). But just as there are different types of track and field athletes and events, there are many different types of track spikes. That is, after all, what they're designed to do – help you run faster, jump higher, go farther, and get closer to your goals. Every track and field athlete of every level wants to perform their best, which is exactly why track spikes are so essential.

MIG flux core wire is an essential component of many different kinds of welding, so you’ll want to know what it is and how it works if you’re trying to get into metalworking. In this guide, we break down all the questions you could ever have about MIG flux core wire and what goes into it, from thickness to flux. In addition to the protective welding clothing, you’ll also need flame resistant clothing to ensure your safety.Whether you’re just getting into welding or if you’ve been doing it all your life, it’s never a bad idea to learn more about specific tools and equipment you’re likely to encounter. Don’t cuff shirts or pants, as sparks can get lodged and burn you it’s best to tuck your pants into a sturdy pair of work boots. To further protect yourself, welding sleeves, an apron or jacket should also be worn. Welding gloves should be worn to protect your hands from hot metal and debris. Safety glasses, combined with a darkening helmet, will protect your eyes from arc flash. A welding helmet will protect your ears, neck and face from debris and slag. Safety should be the biggest priority when welding, no matter which process you choose. More expensive than TIG, MIG or stick welding.Filler metal can be applied at high speed.Easier to learn than stick welding and TIG welding. No need for a shielding gas, making it perfect for outdoor welding. Can be used in all positions with the right filler metal. This internal shield protects the weld pool, and the wire provides filler metal, which is heated and then drips to form a weld between the two metal work pieces. In flux core, the inner core of the wire consists of materials that create purifying agents and shielding gas when the welding arc is struck and heated. The shielding gas is fed from the cylinder to the welding gun, protecting the welding wire from any toxins that would jeopardize the weld. In MIG welding, a separate gas cylinder is hooked up to the welder. What sets flux core apart from MIG welding is how the filler metal is protected. How Flux Core Welding WorksĪ wire is fed through the welder and the welding gun. You also need spools of welding wire, which is fed through the welding gun. You just need a flux core welder, a welding gun, and your metal work piece, which can be either sheet metal, tubing or whatever you need to weld. You don’t need a gas cylinder because the shielding gas is in the core of the welding wire. One of the best parts of flux core welding is the small amount of required equipment. It is a partial root parasite that needs to planted with seeds of other plants. The flowers bloom in early spring and often remain in full color throughout the summer. It is an inflorescence with alternate leaves. It is a perennial growing 15 to 60 cm high. Most species range from a yellow orange to crimson color. It is characterized by it's spikelike flower cluster, which resemble a crude brush that has been dipped in paint. There are at least 6 different species of Castilleja found in the area. Indian Paintbrush abides in the grasslands and open forest clearings from Alaska to California and throughout New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and the Rocky Mountains. The height of the Indian paintbrush ranges from 1 to 2 feet tall. The Indian paintbrush has the ability to grow and survive in serpentine soils, which most species are not equipped to handle the stressful amounts of high magnesium, low calcium and overloaded amounts of metals such as chromium and nickel. The plant prefers full sun and/or small amounts of shade. The seeds of the Indian Paintbrush usually germinate in the fall and bloom the next spring without pre-treatment. The Castilleja grows in moist areas, dry areas, and sandy prairies. This flower displays various shades of orange, red and sometimes yellow. It was adopted as Wyoming's State Flower on January 31, 1917. The Indian paintbrush (Castilleja) is a native wildflower in the family Scrophulariaceae (Figwort Family). Both applications are useful due to it's selenium content. The Chippewa Indians are know the use Indian Paintbrush as a medicine to treat rheumatism and as a bath rinse to make their hair glossy. Various tribes used the flowering parts as a paintbrush. Where high amounts of selenium in the soil is not present, Indain Paintbrush can be enjoyed in moderation with salads. They will absorb selenium, a potentially toxic, alkaline mineral compound in the soil. The flowers are edible yet they must be eaten in small quantities. Sow in the fall for 1 to 2 months and plant in the spring. It grows slowly and is difficult to transplant. It can produce it's own food yet if malnourished it will parasitize off the roots of other plants. The height of the Indian paintbrush ranges from 1 to 2 feet tall.ĭayna Drollinger, Agro / Hort 100G Spring 2002 The plant prefers full sun and / or small amounts of shade. Bo Jacob Cichuniec, Agro / Hort 100G Spring 2002 What's frustrating is that Chevy could have easily avoided these criticisms by lending some material style to its lesser trims-stick some of that denim-like upholstery in the same places the Equinox Premier gets leather, just to interrupt the seas of black plastic.Īn above average base engine is the 2018 Chevy Equinox’s performance highlight, but it’s not good enough to offset a transmission and handling character that’s merely average. Going for the priciest Equinox takes the same leather upholstery and applies it liberally to inserts on the dash and doors. Unless an owner selects the range-topping Premier, monotonous and uninterrupted plastic dominates the cabin. The Equinox garners only a few points for its cabin, despite a neat denim-style seat upholstery. The LT wears body-color mirror caps, while the L and LS' caps are as black and dull as their grilles. Trim-specific style features extend mainly to the range-topping Premier, which gets chromed mirror caps and chrome slats in its front grille. That minor quibble nets the Equinox an only slightly above average exterior style score. Combined with a boring set of taillights, it's hard not to look at the Equinox's backside and see a minivan. The same tall rear hatch that provides a sizable aperture for loading the trunk betrays the crossover's tail. The D-pillar has an aggressive forward rake-props to Chevrolet's designers for avoiding the floating roof fad-while the rear side glass wraps into the back pane.īut it's in back where the Equinox design fails. The other line charges past, cutting through the door handles and connecting the the taillights to the front of the car. One line dives south integrating into the rear wheel arch and giving a sense of continuity to the cutline between the rear bumper and fender. The profile's defining features are a subtle character line that runs from the front wheel arch and then splits in the middle of the front doors. The Cruze lends the crossover's headlights the same general shape, although the Equinox's lights aren't as aggressively swept into the fenders. The new Equinox closes up the sedan-style grille into a single, unified piece that's split by a chrome surround on the lower portion. The Equinox’s style advances, but Chevy’s efforts-or lack thereof-fell just short of our requirements for a higher score, so this crossover stands at a 7 out of 10. In the cabin, a clean, attractive design and handsome denim-like upholstery aren’t enough to overcome a sea of boring plastic. We like most of the aggressive new exterior treatment, which brings a dose of the Cruze and Malibu to the Equinox’s face, although a van-like tail hurts the overall look. The Equinox is better and smarter, but it’s not as good or as smart as it needs to be.Ĭhevy’s designers had a tall order to reinvent the aging Equinox body and cabin into something stylish and competitive in 2017, and the results are solidly above average. The fascia is polarizing, the rear end looks like a minivan, and cutting-edge safety equipment is limited to the range-topping trim, which is itself way too expensive. The smaller body has less cargo space than the competition and the cabin is at least a step behind the competition in material quality and style. All around, this is a better, more complete Equinox than came before.Īnd yet, there are still problems. HID headlights illuminate the road, while vented seats blast the driver’s backside with cool air. Drivers can pair their Apple iPhone or Android smartphone with a standard 4G LTE wi-fi connection and suck tunes from the internet, which are channeled through the audio system that is controlled by a standard 7.0-inch infotainment system. Turbochargers supplant a bigger engine in the Equinox, and promise torque that’s easy to exploit and fuel economy that challenges the segment’s best. But beneath this smaller, svelter body is a smarter vehicle. ( Read more about how we rate cars.)īy shaving 400 pounds of fat and cutting 5 inches between the wheels, the new Equinox looks more like a true contender to the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Toyota RAV4, rather than a plus-size entry among fiercely competent crossover competition. The Equinox earned a 6.5 on our overall scale, which reflects our preference for the new body and its good fuel economy. New for this year, the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox is offered in L, LS, LT, and Premier trims. The new small crossover is lighter, smaller, more aggressively styled, better equipped across the board, and is generally a more complete, competent vehicle than anything to wear the Equinox badge. Chevrolet did a lot right with the 2018 Equinox.
While not all facilities use BI-RADS as their assessment categories, all facilities must use assessment categories in their medical reports due to MQSA law. Lyman-Hager, RT(R)(M) refers to this acronym as a "name brand for assessment categories." This term is a registered trademark of the American College of Radiology (ACR). The acronym BI-RADS stands for Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System. Below, we clarify the value of BI-RADS and break down its categories. This, in turn, plays heavily into further testing, diagnosis, and, ultimately, treatment protocol. Hence the importance of assessment systems, which allow different members of the imaging team to communicate more effectively with each other and different teams.īI-RADS® forms the basis of this communication, providing a framework through which healthcare professionals can share and analyze results. This lack of clarity can extend into the medical profession, as breast imaging can be extremely nuanced. While most are willing to commit to these exams, many struggle to understand what their results mean. These days, most women are well aware of the need for regular mammograms, with Centers for Disease Control data revealing that 69 percent of those over the age of 40 have done exactly that in the last two years. BI-RADS Category & Modern Mammography: The Crucial Role of Breast Imaging Assessmentsīreast imaging plays a critical role in early breast cancer detection.
